Drc Troops Repel Attack On Kinshasa Military Base

In an interview with VOA’s French to Africa Service, government spokesman Lambert Mende said a “small band” of attackers tried to enter Camp Tshatshi in Kinshasa but were stopped. He said authorities have not yet determined whether the attackers were “terrorists or thieves.” A written message on DRC state television told viewers there was “no need to panic.” Mende said troops were patrolling the city to reassure citizens. Gunmen loyal to an evangelical Christian pastor who is opposed to President Joseph Kabila assaulted the same base and briefly captured the state TV station in December of last year. The government said more than 100 people were killed as its forces repelled those attacks. Political tension has been rising in the DRC amid speculation that President Kabila may try to change the constitution and run for a third term in 2016.

In June, three Israeli teenagers were abducted and discovered dead after an 18-day search . A Palestinian boy was soon kidnapped and brutally murdered in an apparent revenge killing . His cousin, a Palestinian-American, was allegedly severely beaten by Israeli police. But only Palestinian children have been killed following the teenagers’ deaths. Israel says Hamas fighters are hiding among Palestinian civilians. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu only added fuel to the fire in the debate over civilian deaths when he said on Sunday on CNN that Hamas is using the images of “telegenically dead” civilians to further damage Israel’s public image.

Israel Is Losing Control of the Gaza Media War

Mende did not immediately have a toll for anyone killed or wounded in the attack. The military camp is located close to the residence of President Joseph Kabila and the sound of gunfire for about 20 minutes in the area provoked widespread panic. Tensions have been particularly high in Congo’s capital since December when assailants attacked not only the Tshatshi camp but also the airport and the headquarters of national television. World Bank: Boko Haram Stalls African Aid Projects

In northern Cameroon, a high-poverty area thats vulnerable to natural disasters, a $108 million grant is stagnating instead of rehabilitating embankments, dams and irrigation systems and improving disaster-preparedness. Diop met with Cameroon President Paul Biya to discuss how Boko Haram has created panic and slowed the execution of some World Bank-financed projects. Diop told VOA they talked about economic development and how to increase the conditions of peace and stability and try also to see how we can strengthen all the social protection programs to alleviate poverty. Governor complains Midjiyawa Bakari governs a far northern region of Cameroon, where World Bank grants aim to restore rice production and provide food and income for the areas 3 million-plus residents. But he told VOA the projects had suffered because most beneficiaries and aid workers are leaving, fearing the violent Islamist group and its regular assaults on villages. The governor said its time to address the insecurity in north Cameroon. He adds that residents have found weapons buried in some towns and are investigating their origins. Such situations scare people from working in the north, he concludes.

In a poll conducted among Jewish Israelis by right-wing newspaper Israel Hayom on July 20, 80 percent responded that they supported the ground incursion and 71 percent said they would even like to see it expanded. This same fervor was on display at a peace rally on July 19 in central Tel Aviv, where a right-wing crowd showed up to out-shout peaceniks, fly Israeli flags and sing national songs. Right-wing activists showed up to protest a peace rally in Tel Aviv on July 12. Photo by Simone Wilson A 27-year-old student at the counter-protest named Lidor told the Journal: I myself am much more emotional because we are on the ground now. But its the only solution. You wont be able to stop Hamas unless youre on the ground. (He and others at the rally did not wish to give their full names, due to wartime tensions.) The end result on a strategic level, Lidor said, has to be the disarmament and the fall of the reign of terror of Hamas. Amnon Ilan, a lifelong Tel Aviv resident in his early 80s who has served in every Israeli war since the War of Independence, carried a sign directed at Israels leading left-wing party. People of Meretz, your kibbutzim are also under fire, he had written. Dont give backwind to our enemies. These kibbutzim the sleepy green farming communities that line Israels border with Gaza are nobodys idea of a warzone.

Op-ed: Why The Gay Panic Defense Must Go | Advocate.com

A third contact will result in a summons for a court appearance, and the person would be subject to arrest, fine or jail. BART started the program at Powell, Jennings said, because it has the biggest problem. It plans to extend the program to other stations, including Civic Center and Montgomery next, but Jennings did not say when. BART police began enforcing the ordinance early Monday and approached 17 people, Jennings said. One was arrested for outstanding warrants, but the rest complied. Entrances to the Powell Street Station and the long hallway on the eastern end are often lined with people sleeping or sitting with legs stretched out.

In 2013 my organization, the LGBT Bar, introduced a resolution at the annual meeting of the American Bar Association, calling on states to outlaw the use of this reprehensible defense. The delegates of the ABA who represent every red and blue corner of the country and every judicial philosophy from Scalia to Ginsburg approved our resolution without dissent. Legal professionals, regardless of their ideological leanings, understand it is never acceptable to defend violence based on who a victim is. Yet only California is moving toward passing legislation outlawing this so-called defense; a bill has passed the Assembly and awaits action in the Senate. And while thats an important start, there is real violence happening to real people in the other 49 states of our union. Earlier this month, a relative of the suspect in the shooting of Tiffany Edwards, a transgender woman in Cincinnati, told local media that the accused perpetrator in Edwardss attack gets an attitude about gay or trans people trying to hit on him. The message was clear: The shooter thought it was perfectly fine to fire a gun at someone because he didnt like her gender identity. Exactly one month earlier, in Atlanta, two men violently attacked two transgender women on Atlantas public transit system. One of the attackers, Luther L.

Surgery May Affect The Nervous System | The Detroit News

The fastest way of it being effective is to use a 325-mg regular, uncoated aspirin, and to chew and swallow it. Every minute counts during a heart attack, and chewing the tablet speeds up effectiveness by about six minutes. I think you may be confusing aspirin with nitroglycerine, which is absorbed under the tongue and should be administered only by the paramedic or a doctor if you havent had it before. Aspirin doesnt interfere with the other medications used. If you think you are having a heart attack, call 911 first, then take the aspirin. You still should take it even if you regularly take a baby aspirin. Tell the paramedics that you took it and when.

Real Madrid Schedule 2014-15: List of Fixtures and Early Analysis | Bleacher Report

He needs to play regularly and that’s unlikely at Madrid, especially with Jese’s emergence. Andy West (@andywest01) June 9, 2014 Additionally, Madrid have added two of the World Cup’s top performers in Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, bringing even more invention to their already frightening attack. Key Games Obviously, the first two matches that stick out the most are those initial clashes against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Those fixtures allow Madrid to lay a marker down in the first half of the season. If they take all six points, they’ll have likely inserted themselves as title favourites, while dropping points to one or both might create unnecessary panic. Last year, Los Blancos dropped both matches in the first half of the campaign. The 1-0 home defeat to Atletico was particularly galling.

I would want to be sure that there are no other causes of these symptoms. It sounds like you have had an extensive evaluation, but I certainly would be concerned about a sudden fast heart rhythm. Dear Dr. Roach: I have read that if you think you are having a heart attack, you should put an aspirin under your tongue to help it dissolve fast and therefore thin your blood. Is this true? Does it somehow adversely affect any medicine the hospital might want to administer? Would it be the same to swallow powder versus a tablet under your tongue? Goodys powder has caffeine.
